Wei Bao, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Epidemiology at University of Science and Technology of China. He currently serves as Executive Director of Institute of Public Health Sciences and Associate Dean of School of Clinical Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China.

Dr. Bao graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University with both a medical degree in Preventive Medicine and a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences in 2006. He earned a PhD in Nutrition and Food Hygiene from Tongji Medical College in 2011. He received postdoc research training in life-course epidemiology at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2011-2015. Before joining University of Science and Technology of China in August 2021, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology (2016-2021) and then granted promotion to Associate Professor with tenure in 2021 at University of Iowa.

Dr. Bao’s research area includes chronic disease epidemiology and women's and children's health. He has considerable expertise in identifying etiology, risk factors and life-course impact of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, with special interests in diet, lifestyle, environmental factors and biomarkers. His research was funded by the NIH, the Rockefeller Foundation and others. Dr. Bao serves as Associate Editor of Nutrition Journal and Nutrition & Metabolism, and be a peer reviewer for research grants by NIH, CDC, British Diabetes Society and for manuscripts by BMJ, Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA Internal Medicine, etc.
