Dr. Ziwen Pan is currently a research associate affiliated at the School of Physical Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China. His research interests cover accelerated muon, cosmic-ray muon and laser driven muon based detection technique developments and multidisciplinary applications. He joined the construction of the first Chinese muon facility, i.e. MELODY in the China Spallation Neutron Source at Dongguan, Guangdong. In accelerated muon instrumentation, he is responsible for the design and building of a muon spin spectrometer for MELODY; he also independently proposed a novel muonic X-ray imaging method and related detection technique. In the field of cosmic-ray muons, he is working on the development of muon telescopes and relevant algorithms for large-scale object transimission imaging. Additionally, he and his collaborators have successfully done the world-first proof-of-principle demonstration experiment of muon production using the 1-petawatt ultrashort high-intensity laser at the SULF laser facility. They are now promoting this brand new muon source in muon imaging, muon spin spectroscopy, and etc.
