Biography

Dr. Yan Xu is a Full Professor at School of Mathematical Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China. Dr. Xu received her Ph.D. degree in computational mathematics from Department of Mathematics, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2005, and her postdoctoral research work at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, from 2005 to 2007, and a one-year visit to the University of Freiburg, Germany, with the support of the Humboldt Foundation in 2009. 
Dr. Xu’s research interests are in numerical analysis and scientific computing, in particular, discontinuous Galerkin methods, finite volume methods and high-order time discretization methods with applications such as in nonlinear wave propagation, fluid dynamics, phase field problems, electronic structure and radiotherapy. Dr. Xu received the National Outstanding PhD Thesis Award in 2008, National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists in 2017, and the 2nd Youth Innovation Award from the Computational Mathematics Division of the Chinese Mathematical Society in 2017. She was a plenary speaker at the 2023 Annual Meeting of Computational Mathematics in China (Nanjing, China). 
Currently, Dr. Xu is serving on the editorial boards of SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, Journal of Scientific Computing, Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Communication on Applied Mathematics and Computation, Chinese Journal of Computational Physics.
