Extending the Cycling Life of LithiumIon Batteries with Silicon/Graphite Composite Anodes by Automatic External Stress Regulation
In this work, based on the variable pressure strategy which can be applied in engineering to solve the expansion problem of silicon carbon battery, we select the foam as the packing medium outside the pouch battery by taking advantage of its characteristic that the stress characteristics change with compression. By testing the electrochemical performance of the battery under constant gap condition, and monitoring the stress change, the appropriate foam material can be selected according to the stress change curve of the battery. Then, the cycle stability of the foam assisted battery was tested, and the results showed that the foam was effective in improving the cycle life of the battery. Finally, the failure mechanism of the battery was analyzed by SEM images of the battery electrode with or without foam assisted circulation. This work opens up new avenues for enhancing the durability and reliability of lithium-ion batteries through the innovative use of buffering materials, revealing a promising approach for mitigating mechanical stress and ensuring stable electrochemical performance.
