IMCL 3D-HEVC Stereo Video Quality Database - Phase I

Introduction
Stereoscopic/3D Video Quality Assessment (3D VQA) is significant for both quality monitoring and optimization of the existing 3D video services. Understanding the quality of experience (QoE) of human viewers when they watch 3D videos is a complex and multi-dimensional problem. So we build a 3D video database based on the latest 3D-HEVC video coding standard, which is the first publicly available 3D-HEVC VQA database containing compressed bitstreams. Apart from designing different distortion levels of symmetric and asymmetric 3D-HEVC compression, it also considers various depth for the stereoscopic videos.

Database Description
The 3D-HEVC Stereo Video Quality Database Phase I with compressed bitstreams and mean opinion score (MOS) is created from 6 pristine stereoscopic video pairs and thus their corresponding single-view videos. In 3D-HEVC compression scheme, the inter-view correlation between two views is explored to improve compression efficiency. Specifically, one view is encoded as base view using HEVC standard, and the dependent view is encoded by exploring inter-view prediction and the inter-frame prediction as well. The single-view videos were employed to generate symmetrically or asymmetrically distorted stereopairs with different presence of depth (i.e., three different baseline groups). Altogether, there are totally 156 stereoscopic videos in our database. Additionally, in order to generate asymmetric compression artifacts, we set the quantization parameter (QP) of base view and dependent view differently.
