Biomolecular Condensates and Chromosome Compartmentalization
Biomolecular condensates provide cells with a way to organize molecules, regulate biochemical processes, and shape intracellular structures. Professor Yao’s team investigates the material properties and cellular functions of these condensates, with a particular focus on their role in chromosome compartmentalization in higher eukaryotic cells. The group explores how condensates interact with chromosome organization and how their molecular composition and physical properties influence chromosome structure and spatial arrangement. By examining how matter is organized inside cells, this research offers new insights into the establishment and maintenance of genome architecture and the regulation of complex activities within the nucleus.
