Profile

Jiansong Deng is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Mathematical Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

In September 1989, he entered the five-year undergraduate program in the Department of Mathematics at USTC. He graduated early in 1993 with a bachelor's degree and was admitted by recommendation to doctoral study in computer aided geometric design, receiving his Ph.D. in 1998. He joined the USTC faculty in 1998 and has been a professor at USTC since 2005. His visiting scholar appointments have included the CAD/CAM Center at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the geometric modeling group led by Alan A. Ball at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, and the Department of Mathematics at Pennsylvania State University in the United States.

His research has long focused on the theory and applications of computer aided geometric design. He was selected for the Ministry of Education's 2008 New Century Excellent Talents Support Program. He has undertaken more than ten research projects supported by the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Anhui Province's Science and Technology Innovation Breakthrough Program, among others. His research papers published in journals in China and abroad, together with granted invention patents, total more than 100. He has achieved internationally leading results in spline theory and isogeometric analysis based on implicit representations.
