In the current era of planetary science, our observations extend far beyond the Earth-Moon system to not only distant objects in the Kuiper belt but also exoplanets near other stars. Regardless of distances and types of objects, our primary understanding of a planet's composition, surface environment, and evolutionary history is obtained from remotely sensing the planet's surface. Motivated by the fundamental questions of how a planet evolves and becomes habitable, I develop my research projects through the analysis of planetary surfaces with remote sensing data. My research projects span from the stratigraphy, aqueous environments to crustal structures and early impact records on Mars. Combining the analysis of spectroscopy data and the physical processes shaping planet's surfaces I was able to place new constraints on the evolution of the climate and geology of the red planet. In addition, I am also building a spectroscopy laboratory here at USTC to work on the intersection between the meteorite samples and the data from Mars exploration program to bridge the gap in understanding martian climate and geologic history.
