    Profile

Si Wu is a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and a high-level talent introduced from overseas, and he previously worked as a group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPIP) in Germany. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Polymer Science and Engineering from USTC in 2005. With the support of the Sino-German Joint Ph.D. Program, he conducted research at both MPIP and USTC, earning his Ph.D. in 2010. From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MPIP. From 2012 to 2018, he worked as a group leader there, leading the research group in the study of photoresponsive polymers. After being selected for the national high-level talent program, he returned to USTC as a professor in 2018. He has received 5 research funds from Germany (3 DFG grants, 1 MPG grant and 1 FCI grant), a Major International (Regional) Joint Research Project from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), a General Project from NSFC, an Anhui Provincial Natural Science Foundation project, 2 Hefei Municipal Natural Science Foundation projects, and others. Two of his students have become "Four Youth" talents, and several others have become professors or associate professors. As a corresponding author, he has published numerous papers in journals such as Nat. Chem., Nat. Commun., Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., and J. Am. Chem. Soc. In recognition of his research in photoresponsive polymers, he was awarded the title of "Ten Leading Chinese Talents on Science and Technology in Europe" in Denmark in 2016. His honors also include being the spokesperson for the Chinese Young Chemist Periodic Table by the Chinese Chemical Society, the Special Prize Instructor for the Anhui Provincial College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition, the Zhang Maosen Fund Research Award, the Outstanding Instructor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Alumni Foundation Young Teacher Career Award.

Si Wu is leading a research group that consists of postdocs, PhD students, and mater students. His group synthesize new photoresponsive polymers, characterize them, explore their potential applications in photolithography, nanoimprint lithography, healable materials, reconfigurable materials, reprocessable materials, information storage, biomedicine, solar energy conversion, and light-guided self-assembly. The aim Si Wu’s group is to better understand the relationship between structural changes, dynamics, and performance of photoresponsive polymers. They answer fundamental questions in photoresponsive polymers with the perspective of future applications.
