  • Multi-scale mechanics of biological and bio-inspired structural materials

By developing multi-scale mechanical models integrating atomistic simulations and continuous medium mechanics, I seek to discover the fundamental structure-property relationships in biological materials, and propose design strategies to simultaneously optimize the strength and toughness of bio-inspired structural materials.

  • Fracture mechanics of biological and biomimetic structures

Based on fracture mechanics, phase-field modeling, and fracture testing, I focus on exploring the competition and cooperation among multiple fracture modes in biological materials, tracking spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of complex cracks and designing fracture resistance of biomimetic structures.

  • Design, fabrication and testing of impact-resistant bio-inspired structures

Through an integrated approach combining simulation, additive manufacturing, and drop tower testing, I aim to explore the competition and cooperation among multiple dynamic energy-dissipation modes in biological materials, and optimize the impact resistance of bio-inspired structures by designing interfaces and structures.
