Dr. Zheng engaged in long-term research in the fields of Impact Dynamics, Material Mechanical Behavior and Design, Contact Mechanics, and Micro/Nano Mechanics, and was responsible for teaching graduate courses "Advanced Applied Mathematics" and undergraduate courses "Statistical Thermodynamics". He has been supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and some other projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has published more than 130 papers in journals such as Int. J. Impact Eng. (IJIE, 13 papers), J. Mech. Phys. Solids (JMPS, 5 papers), Int. J. Mech. Sci. (IJMS, 2 papers), Thin Wall. Struct. (TWS, 3 papers) and Int. J. Solids Struct. (IJSS, 2 papers) with over 4200 citations indexed on Google Scholar. He published the textbook "Applied Mathematics: Analytical Processes and Perturbation Methods" for graduate basic courses.
