Some representative contributions to date include:
1. Revealing that early martian crust was intensely oxidised during impact reworking and providing a viable heat source to sustain surface liquid water on early Mars despite the faint young Sun (Deng et al., 2020, Science Advances; Pan et al., 2023, GRL).
2. Discovering that mass exchange between the upper and lower mantle was limited for most of Earth's geologic history, and modern-style plate tectonics only represents a recent feature of Earth (Deng et al., 2023, Nature).
3. Revealing a ubiquitous contribution of sedimentary silica in the magma sources of Archean granitoids and pinpointing the onset of supracrustal recycling on Earth (Deng et al., 2019, Nature Geoscience).
4. Unraveling the complication of Ti isotopic fractionation during magma differentiation and reconciling the debate on compositional evolution of continental crust in deep time (Deng et al., 2018, GPL; Deng et al., 2019, PNAS).
5. Developing novel in situ or solution-based metal isotope techniques for meteorites and bringing constraints on the early Solar System processes, e.g., gas condensation (Martins et al., 2020, EPSL), chondrule formation (Deng et al., 2021, GCA), terrestrial planet accretion (Onyett et al., 2023, Nature; Moynier et al., 2020, EPSL).
6. Characterising and providing the suited international reference materials (i.e., rutile, ilmenite, titanite and perovskite) for in situ Ti isotopic measurement via LA-MC-ICP-MS (Liu et al., 2023, SAPB; Liu et al., 2023, GGR).
