Profile

Dr. Shangfeng Yang (PhD, FRSC)

Dr. Shangfeng Yang received his Ph. D. from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2003. He then joined Leibniz-Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW) Dresden, Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellow (2004-2005) and a Guest Scientist (2005-2007). In Dec. 2007 he joined University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) as a full professor of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale & Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and has been appointed as Department Head since Oct. 2014. He was also appointed as the Deputy Director of CAS Key Laboratory of Materials for Energy Conversion in Oct. 2015, and Dean Assitant of School of Chemistry and Materials Science in May 2021. His current research interests include the synthesis and characterization of novel nanocarbons (mainly endohedral fullerenes) as well as their applications in organic/perovskite solar cells.

Dr. Yang published over 300 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Nature Commun., Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Chem. Rev., Chem. Soc. Rev., Acc. Chem. Res., edited two monographs entitled ‘‘Endohedral Fullerenes: From Fundamentals to Applications’’ (World Scientific Publishing Co.) and "Fullerenes: Fundamentals to Applications" (Scientic Publisher), and contributed to 9 book chapters. He delivered more than 80 invited lectures in international and domestic conferences. He was elected as Fellow of RSC (FRSC) in 2019. He was also the recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2019), “Young Faculty Award” of USTC Alumni Foundation (2010), "CAS Excellent Supervisor Award" (2016, 2017).

Information for POSTDOC and Research Assoc. Professor

Two to four positions for Postdocs and Research Assoc. Professors are available from time to time. Candidates with a research background of carbon nanostructures (fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, graphenes) and thin-film solar cells are preferred and other applicants with PhD in materials science or chemistry are also welcome. The annual salary will be 220,000+ (>22万) RMB depending on experience and performance. Please send your CV to Prof. Shangfeng Yang (sfyang@ustc.edu.cn) detailing your PhD research experience.

Information for GRADUATE students

Candidates for GRADUATE study (leading to Master and/or Ph. D degree) are invited for those with strong interest in materials science and especially carbon nanostructures and organic solar cells, with enthusiasm in scientific involvement, and with excellent record in their undergraduate study. Three to five students will be recruited each year. Please send your CV to Prof. Shangfeng Yang (sfyang@ustc.edu.cn).

Information for UNDERGRADUATE students

We are also keen to provide opportunity of research and undergraduate project for USTC undergraduates. Those with very strong research motivations and plan to pursue their PhD degrees in our group are welcome.
