High-Energy Heavy-Ion Collision Experiments (USTC)

Our group actively participates in RHIC-STAR and the LHC-CMS heavy-ion program, and also contributes to FAIR-CBM (Germany), NICA (Russia), and related domestic initiatives (e.g., CEE). We work on frontier topics including QGP properties and the QCD phase structure, as well as photon-induced physics in ultra-peripheral collisions (UPC, γA/γγ).

Projects you may work on

  • QGP physics: using dileptons (e⁺e⁻/μ⁺μ⁻) and quarkonia (J/ψ, Υ) as key probes, with an emphasis on signal extraction, systematics, and physics interpretation.

  • Photoproduction / UPC (CMS/STAR): vector-meson photoproduction, γγ/γA processes, polarization/interference observables, and ZDC neutron tagging for event categorization.

  • Methods & tools: ROOT/Python analysis pipelines, statistical fits, Monte Carlo simulations, reproducible workflows (Git/documentation), and  ML applications.

Desired background
Motivation and attention to detail; programming in Python and/or C++ (ROOT/Linux/Git is a plus). We welcome graduate students and motivated senior undergraduates for internships and thesis projects.

How to apply
Please email your CV (and transcript if available), and briefly describe your research interests and availability.
