Prof. Zong-Quan Zhou leads the Group of Solid-State Quantum Memories at the University of Science and Technology of China. He proposed the quantum memory protocol "Noiseless Photon Echo" (NLPE, Nature Commun. 2021), the multiplexed quantum repeater protocol based on time measurement (MQR-TM, Nature Photon. 2026) and the hybrid quadruple-link quantum repeater (H4QR, PRA 2026) using balloons as backbone channels.
His team has made several significant advancements in the fields of quantum memories and quantum networks, including:
1. Demonstration a multiplexed quantum repeater ("XingHan 1.0") [Nature 594, 41 (2021), cover story];
2. A metropolitan-scale multiplexed quantum repeater with Bell non-locality ("XingHan 2.0") [Nature Photonics 2026].
3. Coherent storage of light for one hour [Nature Communications 12, 2381 (2021), Top 25 physics articles in 2021];
4. Integrated quantum memories with efficiency exceeding 80% using impedance-matched microcavities [Nature Photonics 20, 437 (2026), cover story].
One of his landmark achievements, "rare-earth ions enabling multiplexed quantum repeaters and one-hour optical storage," was recognized as one of China's Top 10 News Stories of Scientific and Technological Progress in 2021, as voted by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Additionally, the development of "rare-earth-based solid-state quantum memories" was listed among the Top 10 Scientific and Technological Advancements in Chinese Universities in 2021.
Currently, there are open positions for postdoctoral researchers and PhD students in Prof. Zhou's lab!
