Our group works on micro/nanoscale energy transport and thermal management, along four directions:
1. Microscopic mechanisms of energy transport and computational design of thermal functional materials: first-principles calculations of phonon spectra, scattering mechanisms, and Boltzmann transport, guiding the design of high-thermal-conductivity, thermoelectric, and low-dimensional materials.

2. Synthesis, structure, and applications of extreme thermal materials: crystal growth (CVT/CVD/Flux) and consolidation of high-thermal-conductivity materials (boron arsenide, black phosphorus), thermal insulators, ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs), and low-dimensional/composite materials, for heat dissipation and thermal protection.

3. Ultrafast laser-based precision metrology for micro/nanoscale energy transport: time-domain thermoreflectance (TDTR) platforms for cross-plane/in-plane thermal transport, sound velocity, thin-film thickness, and carrier transport, integrated with extreme conditions (high temperature up to 1200 K, high pressure up to 40 GPa, low temperature down to 8 K, and magnetic fields up to 2 T).

4. Cooling solutions for ultra-high heat-flux chips: proactive dynamic thermal management and power modulation, topology-optimized manifold microchannel design with conjugate heat transfer simulation, and thermo-hydraulic experimental testing.
